“Approaching Fog" is plein air painting executed in a palette primarily of earth tones, greens and blues and depicts a beautiful purple fog. This piece represents one of Lamb’s classic landscapes, with his distinctive swift brushstroke and monumental cliffs — most of which are dappled in the bright sunlight. Lamb’s brushstrokes are built up in almost geometric form, giving this picture a strength and richness that is uncommon among California Impressionists.
