Figurative sculpture is a language MacDonald speaks with astounding fluency, and as with any language, MacDonald’ creative drive is formed of a need to share the universal dialect of the human figure with those who understand it; this is the unique privilege the artist affords his viewers. He captures the beauty, romance and essence of the human spirit in motion. In “Daybreak”, the figure removes her cloak, to symbolize the greeting of a new day, and her expectation of the warmth and light of morning. This suggestion hints at the idea of time passing, and the constant renewal of the natural world in all its beauty.
