Richard MacDonald revisits the timeless myth of Orpheus and Eurydice in his masterful sculpture Orpheus Ascending. The ancient Greeks understood the paradox of human vulnerability: that the limits of mortal strength imbue our passions with an intensity envied by the immortal gods of Olympus.
In this powerful work, Orpheus defies the gods in a desperate attempt to reclaim the life of his beloved. Suspended in a moment of supreme drama, we witness his struggle to lift Eurydice from the shadows of Hades—a poignant tribute to the enduring strength of the human spirit.
This evocative sculpture is finished with triple white gold leaf over cast bronze, then hand-glazed and tinted by the artist.
