“Jesse” symbolizes balance and the ability to stretch beyond our perceived limits. An extremely difficult posture, the model is extended from his core, arched back and to the side, and yet seems at ease. He appears composed, comfortable and content with himself. Created during one of MacDonald’s workshops, the artist’s goal was to teach his students the ease of working with models. He notes he was “simply inspired by doing.” He sees something in a model, and then pushes it further. In that moment, MacDonald’s imagination and intuitive insight takes form.
