Conceived early in Richard MacDonalds career, the ideas involving three carefree figures of seemingly enchanted origin continue to stir the artists imagination. Joie de Femme, expressed as two female figures playing a trumpet and a horn as they dance with the exuberance of child-like joy, has become emblematic of the artists sincere belief that life should be lived with a sense of freedom and a light heart. Joy is expressed in the lilting motion conveyed by the Trumpeters dance, while the alluring pose of the Piper suggests an invitation to join in their revelry.
