“A silent medium within a silent medium.” These are the words Richard MacDonald uses to describe his world-renowned Mime Series, and never are they more poignant than in this latest creation. Dedicated to the legendary Marcel Marceau, known to be one of the most famous mimes in history, Sleep Marcel Sleep captures the mime’s face in the state of blissful sleep—serene, vulnerable, and utterly human. His arms expressing the mood of sleep. Yet below that quietude, the figure’s grasping toes and bent slippers express impossible agility, balancing delicately on a sphere. The contrast of delicacy and strength, of stillness and motion, embodies the very soul of MacDonald’s work. The striking black and white patina elevates the magic. This sculpture invites the viewer to be their own storyteller, much like its evocative predecessor, Midnight. It is a powerful metaphor, open to interpretation, and destined to be a centerpiece in any collection.

Midnight, Atelier is a striking new addition to Richard MacDonald's series honoring the quiet poetry of performance. Here, the artist captures a moment of profound stillness-his figure suspended in dreamlike reflection, poised between motion and rest. The sculpture evokes intimacy and introspection, drawing the viewer into a space where the unspoken carries weight. Midnight, Atelier is also the first sculpture in the Atelier Collection to feature the rare and dramatic Blanc Noir patina.

Rendered in the exquisite Blanc Noir finish, the piece balances mystery and clarity: a velvety black surface adorned with painterly white accents and a luminous face that seems to glow from within. With every gesture refined to its essence, Midnight, Atelier invites collectors into a world where silence speaks volumes and emotion lingers in the air. As part of a limited edition and finished in one of MacDonald's rarest patinas, it stands as a highly collectible work for those drawn to both artistry and exclusivity.
